The trick about getting through a long, cold, and dark winter is to avoid it sometimes. So that’s what I did last week, grateful and fortunate to find myself in Florida, a state with politics that make no sense but are honestly easy to forget about while staring at palm trees.
I’m all for embracing the season when there is snow. But in my upstate New York bubble we’ve had ice and rain and measly 1″ dustings. So I returned to the Atlantic coast of a marginally warmer, brighter place for the first time in six years.
The wind never stopped and I took many photos, drank too much coffee, and ate some delicious food. There was never a shortage of interesting things to look at. I found myself drawn to the flora almost everywhere I turned. Here are some images that I’ll leave with no context other than *spoiler alert* it was very cold there too.

See you next time, Florida.
